A huge thanks to everyone that came out to this year's Day of the Dead Party at the Bone Garden Cantina!!! This year's party was as awesome as always! If you didn’t know about our annual event, you’re probably living under a rock. But, that’s okay. Just check out a few of the highlights below. And be sure to LIKE or SHARE on Facebook or Twitter!
It’s time for Day of the Dead, or Día de los Muertos in Spanish - the ancient holiday observed across Mexico and now around the world. The meaning behind Day of the Dead can be traced back thousands of years to the ancient civilizations that rose and fell in Mexico prior to the Spanish arriving in 1519. These indigenous cultures, like the Mayans and Aztecs, believed in the afterlife. Death did not mean the end of one’s life, but a continuance of life. Souls traveled to the afterworld and through death, new life was created. It was believed that death was not to be feared, and that the deceased preferred to be celebrated rather than mourned. This year since Creative Director of Stella Entertainment, Shane Smith, has also been creating content for Bone Garden Cantina's blog, Get Your Bone On, we thought we'd share a little history on ofrendas y altars de El Dia de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead offerings and altlars. This year not only marked the sixth annual Atlanta Food & Wine Festival, but the first year in its new home of Piedmont Park. With all the construction around the city, it was no surprise that the festival was impacted with a more intimate space last year. But this year's event was nestled in the seclusion of Greensward Promenade, providing a lush backdrop speckled with glass art installations - a perk of being located near the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. With another year of classes, private dinners, and tastings, this year's festival brought both the tried favorites, and the new. Check out the highlights below. And sure to LIKE or SHARE on Facebook or Twitter! Join the southern foodies. :)
The best thing about being a sea lover in a landlocked state is that any time is a great time for a quick beach getaway! And boasting some of the best beaches in the nation, is the Florida west coast. Whether you're looking for a little rest & relaxation or a little more fun in the sun, this coastal treasure provides much more than a refuge for snowbirds. In Atlanta, fall is a great season for festivals. And what better way to start, than with Taste of Atlanta? Now in its's 14th year, Taste of Atlanta is the city's premier food, wine, beer, and cocktail festival that showcases the diversity of Atlanta restaurants and attracts food lovers from Atlanta, the Southeast, and beyond. Held in September, instead of October this year, the weather wasn't quite on our side. But it didn't stop the food lovers! With over 80 restaurants, live cooking demonstrations, hands on cooking classes, and a VIP experience featuring beer and wine provided by Hop City - it was quite the experience, despite the constant drizzle of rain. (Some of us even left with tummy aches from eating too much.) Check out the highlights below. And be sure to LIKE or SHARE on Facebook or Twitter! Do it for the foodies. :)
The beauty of Atlanta is that in a constantly revolving city filled with new construction, high rises, and a bustling nightlife - all one has to do is take is one step off-the-beaten-path to find one of the city's hidden jewels. And today's stop is Dr. Bombay's Underwater Tea Party. Tucked away from the nearby little city of Bohemia - okay - the area known as Little Five Points - sits Dr. Bombay's. Filled with worn books, quirky knick-knacks, and an extensive selection of teas, this quaint little gem is a breath of fresh air from the nonstop pace of the city. At any given time you might find a group of shabby chic ladies enjoying a cup of tea, a couple of hipster-gents catching up on work, or a giggling bunch of little ones lining up for a scoop of ice cream. It's neighborhood charm is almost palpable. Check out the pics below for a peek inside. And be sure to LIKE or SHARE on Facebook or Twitter. It's the neighborly thing to do. :)
The Atlanta Food and Wine Festival took over Loew's Hotel and much of Midtown for three days bringing together chefs and foodies from all over. Slightly more intimate this year, due to downtown construction, the AFWF is one of the only culinary festivals that's dedicated to showcasing the rich food and beverage traditions of the south. Check out the highlights from this year's festival below. And be sure to LIKE or SHARE on Facebook or Twitter! Its how we wind down a festival. :)
